A lesson of life...

The scenario
Myself - 33 years old VS My senior colleague - 55 years old.
22 years difference. I can be his son, or perhaps son in law (ekekekeke... :-P)
The fact is, we are colleagues. Promoting Malaysian products and services. Trying to generate revenue from foreign countries for Malaysia. Enhancing the image of our beloved country.
During weekends, we are tennis sparring partners.
The conversation took place at his office, today.
No Malaysian "Kampung" coffee (Kopi O Kaw) as usual as he was rushing for an appointment outside.
He loves to tell great stories, sometimes interesting and funny as he was so experienced.

The story
My senior colleague told me a short but interesting story.

"Shahrul, during a course I attended last time, an expert in HRM (Human Resource Management) asked me what is my opinion of the loyalty of an employee?"

"Oh... OK... " I nodded. "So what did you (Mr ... ) say?"

He answered,

"You try to consider my case - I have been working with this organisation for 36 years, non-stop. I am 55 years and will be retiring this year. When I made the rough calculations, 65 percent of my life is devoted to my job. You know the nature of my job... aren't you? Therefore, only 35 percent is for my personal life, family, relax & recreation, ibadah, etc etc".

"And what's the response of the HRM expert then?" I asked him further.

"You know what he said".. with a pause of breath... "I think it is my mistake to ask you that question.... "

We laughed for a while. A short but meaningful conversation.

I rushed back to my office across the road, and wrote this note...

My mind still pondering... and reflecting to myself...

What a lesson of life! ;-)
