Motivation Guru Says Goal-setting Important For Achieving Success
KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- Motivation guru Jim Rohn says people can achieve success if they make a change for the better, set goals and have a daily checklist to mark their progress and accomplishments.
The 75 year-old speaker from Idaho in the United States said success is about doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.
As opposed to animals, human beings are the only life forms on earth capable of making changes to their lives, he said at the recent 2006 National Achievers' Congress at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
Citing the example of the geese during winter, he said they only knew how to fly southwards and nothing else.
"If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us," he told the congress, which was organised by Success Resources Pte Ltd.
Rohn, who has addressed more than four million people worldwide for almost 40 years, said goal-setting meant that a person would have to think where he or she would like to be in five or 10 years' time and how that could be achieved.
He said formal education only enabled one to make a living but it is self-education that would help make a fortune.Rohn also said that people should not blame the economy or the type of government for their lack of success.
The winds of opportunities are everywhere and one only has to set the sails right to harness the opportunities, he said."It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go," he stressed.
As one went through life, Rohn said it is important for one to reflect upon one's life experience and that of others.Learning from the failures of others would also help one to avoid pitfalls or do foolish things, he said.
