H1N1 Cases in Taiwan

As of today, there are 9 confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu reported in Taiwan. Listed in chronological order:

CASE 1: 18 May - A 52-year old Australian cruise doctor who resides in Taiwan was found infected after his return from New York via Hong Kong. His wife was found free of the virus. Admitted in Taoyuan General Hospital, until 25 May 2009.

CASE 2:
A 22-year-old female Taiwanese student who arrived from New York via Hong Kong on 19 May, flight CX831 New York - HK and CX468 HK-Taipei. She was admitted in Taoyuan General Hospital.

CASE 3:
A 23-year-old Taiwanese student studying in the United States who returned to Taiwan via EVA Airways flight BR17 in seat 66E, 23 May. Detected to have a fever at a quarantine station at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and admitted to Taoyuan General Hospital.

CASE 4: A 30-year-old female, who took Philippine Airlines PR896 flight in seat 23B to Taiwan from Manila on 20 May. The patient has been to her friend’s place and a clinic before being sent to hospital for quarantine for having a high fever on May 21. Her five-year-old daughter, who showed symptom of fever on Thursday evening, had gone to the kindergarten earlier the same day.

CASE 5: The sister of the third case, a 23-year-old Taiwanese student studying in the United States. Both returned to Taiwan on 23 May via EVA Airways flight BR17 from San Francisco.

CASE 6: The 5-year-old daughter of the fourth confirmed patient, a 30-year-old Taiwanese woman who, along with her daughter, returned home Wednesday from Manila on Philippine Airlines flight RP896. Because the girl attended her kindergarten class -- affiliated with Guangfu Elementary School in Taipei County's Zhonghe City -- as usual Thursday, the school will be closed until May 29. All of the elementary school's 1,589 faculty members and students should observe their health during the week-long period, and the kindergarten's 119 teachers, staff members and students should confine themselves to their homes and take anti-flu medicine for 10 days.

CASE 7: Domestic Infection - A 40-year old woman, friend of victim of Case No.4 who came back from the Philippines (they have dinner together). Potential spread - her husband. Admitted at SanChong Hospital.

CASE 8: Student, woman, arriving from San Francisco via BR007 25 May. Admitted at Taoyuan General Hospital.

CASE 9: Student, woman, arriving from San Fransciso via BR007 25 May. Admitted at Taoyuan General Hospital (same scenario as CASE 8).

PRECAUTION/PREVENTIVE MEASURES
  • Wash hands frquently with soap, use antiseptic hand cleaner/towelletes if possible.
  • Cover noses and mouth with hand/handkerchief when sneezing. Avoid sneezing in the public.
  • Practice active lifestyle, enough rest/sleep, eat nutritious food
  • Seek medical treatment immediately when get caught with flu, fever, cough, headache, joint pain, sore throat, running nose, sometimes vomitting/diarrhoea.
